Competitions
Monthly Club Competitions
There will be five club competitions held during the club season at approximately monthly intervals.
Currently we have two sections or grades for Intermediate photographers and Advanced photographers. New members may select which level they compete in. An advanced worker can not enter work into the Intermediate Section unless agreed by the committee. The winner of the Intermediate Section must move into the Advanced Section.
Each competition will have 3 classes
- Monochrome Prints i.e. (One continuous tone with no more than one other colour)
- Colour Prints
- Transparencies and or Digital Projected Images.
Each member may enter up to 3 pieces of work in each of the above classes. All entries are to be made on the appropriate entry list provide by the Competition Secretary, spreading out your work where possible. Entries are to be submitted by the published date unless agreed by Programme Secretary.
All prints to have a completed competition label on the back. The maximum size of entry, including mount is 20 inches by 16 inches (40 x 50 cm).
Slides are to be titled and marked with a spot/mark on the bottom left-hand corner as it is viewed by hand and bear the members initials. Place slides into slotted boxes against the number as listed.
Digital images are to be supplied in jpeg format (maximum size 2MB): landscape format with a maximum width of 1024 pixels and portrait format with a maximum height of 768 pixels.
Scoring for the Monthly Club Competition League Tables
- 1st: 6 points
- 2nd: 5 points
- 3rd: 4 points
- Highly Commended: 3 points
- Commended: 2 points
- Unplaced entries will be awarded 1 point
For aggregate league table scores only the 2 highest scores will be counted.
A piece of work can be entered into a competition and an end of the year awards competition only once.

Annual Awards Competition Rules
The Annual Awards Competition is a separate open single section competition with four classes. Entries can be from previous monthly competitions or new work. The objective is to find the best work for the following awards. Each member may enter a maximum of 4 pieces of work in each of
- Monochrome Prints
- Colour Prints
- Transparencies
- Digital Projected Image
Trophies are
- The Howson Cup - Best Monochrome
- The Mary Weech Rose Bowl - Best Colour Print
- The Hooper Cup - Best Slide
- The Brenda Baker Trophy - Best Digital Creative Print
- The Cardale Cup - Best Human Portrait (print or slide)
Generally all the annual awards will be made following this competition.
